Iowa City Police seek assistance in convenience store assault investigation

Iowa City Police are looking for a suspect they say assaulted a convenience store employee last spring.

According to an ICPD news release, at approximately 5:18 a.m. on Sunday, June 5th, officers responded to the L & M Mighty Shop at 504 East Burlington Street for a report of an assault.

Officers spoke with the clerk, who reported a man with red-tipped dreadlocks entered the store, became upset, and hit the clerk from across the counter. The clerk reported when he tried to remove the man from the store, the man continued to assault him. The clerk suffered injuries as a result of the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black, white, and red ballcap, a white T-shirt, light-colored jeans, and white shoes. He was last seen fleeing the store in an unknown direction.

This incident is being actively investigated by the Iowa City Police Department and we are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone with security cameras near L & M Mighty Shop, the H-Bar at 220 S Van Buren St., or anywhere in that area are asked to review and preserve their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
