A Coralville man wanted for failing to appear at his probation revocation hearing was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly being found passed out behind the wheel of an automobile with the ignition in the on position.
Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Boston Way on a report of loud music around 12:30 am. Upon arrival, the music could be heard coming from a vehicle in the building’s parking lot. The occupants of the Ford Fusion included 37-year-old Maurice Lindsey Jr., who was reportedly passed out in the driver’s seat with the ignition in the on position to allow the music to play.
The vehicle was warm to the touch, and a passenger told police that Lindsey had driven to the parking lot minutes before their arrival. Several open containers of alcohol were allegedly in plain sight throughout the vehicle.
Lindsey reportedly showed multiple signs of intoxication, including droopy red watery eyes, slurred speech, and an odor of ingested alcohol. A check of Lindsey’s driving record showed two previous OWI’s, including one in 2010 and most recently in April 2021, when he was sentenced to seven days in jail, an $1875 fine and a year’s probation. Lindsey had a warrant issued February 11th of this year for failure to appear for a probation revocation hearing.
Lindsey has been charged with OWI third offense, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
