A North Liberty man faces charges that he assaulted a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy after a reckless driving incident Tuesday night.

Deputies were dispatched to Potter Street in Tiffin just after 5:45pm for a driver hitting curbs and driving through yards. Officers located that suspect’s 2017 Nissan Frontier at a nearby residence. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Lucky Coleman of Westlake Road, allegedly showed signs of intoxication, but refused to leave the steps of the house to conduct field sobriety testing.

Coleman reportedly resisted handcuffing and getting into the squad car. At one point, he allegedly kicked a deputy in the face.

Deputies say Coleman performed poorly on field sobriety testing and refused breath testing. He’s charged with Assault on Peace Officers, Interference With Official Acts and Operating While Intoxicated. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
