A man with a history of masturbating at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics now faces an armed robbery charge after allegedly holding up a downtown Iowa City liquor store at knifepoint Saturday night.
28-year-old Chad Morgan Fairchild of the Town and Campus Apartments was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11pm Saturday. Just after 9:45pm Fairchild reportedly entered Hawkeye Smoke and Liquor on the corner of Clinton and College Streets and tried to steal a vape pen. When confronted by the clerk, Fairchild reportedly threatened the man with a knife. Fairchild then allegedly lunged at the clerk with the knife while the man was calling the police.
Fairchild is charged with 1st Degree Robbery and Assault While Using or Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 27 years in prison.
Fairchild was banned from the UIHC after a May 29th, 2019 incident where police say he started masturbating on three different occasions in front of a staff nurse and nurses monitoring him on video. Fairchild pleaded guilty to an Indecent Exposure charge and was sentenced to five days in jail.
Fairchild is also awaiting his next court date on a 2nd Degree Burglary charge after allegedly kicking in a neighbor’s apartment door at Town & Campus last month. That charge comes with a maximum ten-year sentence.
