The University of Iowa is discontinuing its online COVID-19 self-reporting tool.

That’s according to a COVID-19 update issued by the school earlier this week. The news release says that as of August 1st, students, faculty and staff will no longer need to self-report a positive COVID-19 test online, but should instead follow their department’s standard process for reporting an illness and taking sick leave.

School officials say the UI will continue to adjust its COVID-19 policies as access to vaccination and boosters, improved treatment options, and at-home testing all increase. Johnson County Public Health suspended contact tracing earlier this year and UI officials say the self-reported data no longer provides an accurate snapshot of cases on campus.

Those who test positive for COVID-19 are reminded to continue following self-isolation guidelines. Anyone showing symptoms or who has been exposed to the virus is asked to stay home.

University of Iowa Health Care employees who test positive for COVID-19 should continue to contact the University Employee Health Clinic (UEHC) at 319-356-3631.
