Teens in stolen vehicle arrested after I-380 police chase

Two teens have been arrested after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a chase down Interstate 380.

The Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center received a report of two vehicles “playing cat and mouse” on southbound I-380 near mile marker 7 just before 12:30 Friday morning.
A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle a short time later still travelling southbound on the interstate. The driver did not stop despite the deputy activating his lights and siren, and a short pursuit ensued. The chase finally ended on Highway 1 near Kitty Lee Road SW.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of the Cedar Rapids area, were both identified as 13-year-old males. The driver has been charged with 1st Degree Theft, Eluding, and Speeding. The passenger has been charged with 1st Degree Theft . Both juveniles were transported to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by police from North Liberty, Coralville and Iowa City.
