A Coralville man has been taken into custody on a warrant stemming from an alleged assault this spring.

Police say the incident occurred May 16th. They were dispatched to Club Car on Wright Street  for a report of an assault that had just occurred around 12:30 am. The victim was reportedly bleeding profusely from a 3 inch gash in his forehead so severe that the victim’s skull could be seen.

Bar staff identified the alleged assailant as 40-year-old Joshua Beard of Boston Way, as he was in their establishment that night and used his credit card for his purchases. They were shown a picture of Beard and confirmed that he was the one who committed the assault.

Beard had left the premises by the time police arrived.

A warrant was issued for Beard’s arrest later that day, and he was taken into custody Wednesday morning.  He’s been charged with willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.  A no-contact order was issued by Judge Jason Burns.
