An Iowa City transient who has a laundry list of alleged car burglaries and other crimes was caught in the act once again Saturday afternoon.

Police say 20-year-old Jeiden Fair was reportedly observed by witnesses on the 1400 block of Plum Street rummaging through a vehicle’s center console just before 4:15. He was confronted and ran away without being able to take any items from the vehicle.

Officers took him into custody and charged him with 3rd degree Attempted Vehicle Burglary, a serious misdemeanor.

In July 2020, Fair was caught in the act going through unlocked vehicles on 4th Avenue, Keokuk Street, and Friendship Street. The next month, he allegedly got into an unlocked vehicle on Hillside Drive, and was seen trying door handles on other vehicles in a nearby neighborhood.

In May 2021, Fair was arrested on a domestic abuse charge that was dismissed. He allegedly got caught after entering a parked car on Dickenson Lane in February of this year, then last month got nabbed for the alleged theft of liquor from the Keokuk Street Kwik Star.

Court records show that there have been numerous charges against Fair dismissed by the courts for various reasons. He awaits trial on the February vehicle burglary; a case management conference is scheduled for this morning. He will be arraigned on Saturday’s incident July 11th.
