An additional person has been charged for an incident that involved a car accident and a man throwing a suitcase over a bridge.
On June 20th, police investigated an accident that occurred in the area of East College and Gilbert Streets just before 6:30 pm. A witness reported that 30-year-old Mack Blumingburg of Chicago threw a suitcase over a nearby bridge. Additional officers on scene recovered the suitcase and allegedly found a Taurus 9mm handgun inside.
Blumbingburg reportedly denied that the suitcase was his initially, but then admitted that he threw the case over the bridge. He said that the clothing inside was his, but officers located clothes and a wig that 26-year-old Briyanna Guise, also of Chicago, was observed wearing on social media.
Blumingburg allegedly admitted that the suitcase was co-owned by him and Guise. He also said the handgun belonged to Guise, but they both had access to it. Blumingburg is not permitted access to a handgun as he is a convicted felon, a fact known by Guise. Police say Blumingburg knew more about the handgun than Guise.
She reportedly refused to cooperate with authorities during their investigation, denying ownership but then later admitted to purchasing it in Chicago.
Blumingburg was charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, a Class D Felony. After completing their investigation, police requested a warrant for Guise’s arrest; she was taken into custody Friday afternoon and charged with Prohibited Transfer of a Firearm to an Unauthorized User, also a Class D Felony. If convicted, both Blumingburg and Guise could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
