An intoxicated pedestrian faces charges that he assaulted multiple University of Iowa Police officers and Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies early Saturday morning.
UI Police say an officer observed a disoriented subject…later identified as 30-year-old Kevin Hennessey of Cicero, New York…at the corner of Market and Madison Streets at 1:45am. Hennessey reportedly believed he was at the Hyatt Place Hotel on East Court Street, when he was actually in front of the Iowa Memorial Union.
Police say Hennessey showed multiple signs of intoxication. He then said he was going to meet a family member and walked away.
The same UI Police officer reports seeing Hennessey walking down the middle of the street a short time later. The officer activated her lights and siren as she was behind Hennessey, but he reportedly refused to stop. Hennessey allegedly tried to take the officer to the ground when she got out of her car and grabbed him, leading to his arrest.
Police say once at the Johnson County Jail, Hennessey kicked, spat at, and head-butted deputies. The officer who was head-butted suffered an injury when her glasses smashed against her face.
Hennessey is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Injury, Interference With Official Acts and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over three years in prison.
