An Iowa City man could spend as much as a quarter-century behind bars after selling methamphetamine in the parking lot of the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort.

38-year-old Mark Poggenpohl was given a 25-year prison sentence Friday morning by Judge John Linn.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says Poggenpohl sold 3.7 grams of methamphetamine to a person cooperating with authorities on March 18th of 2021. The witness testified that they saw several more bags of meth in Poggenpohl’s backpack, and saw him enter the casino with that backpack.

The sentence will run concurrently with potential sentences out of Johnson County for pending burglary and criminal mischief charges. A plea hearing in those cases is set for June 10th.
