An Iowa City transient with numerous criminal charges over the last few years was arrested again after allegedly stealing a bottle of liquor from a convenience store and being found in possession of marijuana.

Tuesday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the Kwik Star on Keokuk Street on reports of a liquor theft. 20-year-old Jeiden Fair was approached by officers near 2nd Street and the Gilbert Court railroad tracks, and was asked if he had just stolen from the store; he denied doing so. The stolen liquor bottle was then observed in his pocket.

After being placed in handcuffs, Fair advised that he had marijuana on him. Officers reportedly discovered the drug and a marijuana grinder in his pants pockets.

Kwik Star said the value of the liquor stolen was a little over $20. He had been given a trespass warning just two days earlier.

Fair was charged with Trespass, 5th degree Theft, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He faces a jail term of up to 14 months if convicted on all counts. Fair was released on his own recognizance pending further court action.

On February 2 of this year, Fair was accused of entering a car parked in a driveway on Dickenson Lane just before 6:15 am.  Police say surveillance video shows Fair leaving one car, then unsuccessfully trying to enter another before leaving on foot. The video is reportedly well-lit and of good quality, clearly showing Fair’s face. Police said he was wearing the same sweatshirt in the video as in his Facebook photo.

Fair was charged with 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The last charge came after Fair reportedly had marijuana on his person when he was taken into custody at his residence later that week.

If convicted on those charges, Fair faces a maximum of four years in prison. A case management conference is scheduled for June 2nd.
