Iowa City Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shots fired incident at Mercer Park earlier this month.
Police responded to the incident the evening of May 9th, and detectives became aware that Amarie Polk of Maggard Street was involved in the incident. During the examination of evidence and execution of search warrants, police learned that Polk was present for the purchase of a Glock 20 10mm pistol the day before the Mercer Park incident. The pistol was recovered on May 10th.
Polk was also allegedly seen in photographs showing him in possession of the Glock hours before the incident. During a search warrant of his residence, officers recovered 10mm ammunition.
Polk was convicted of a felony this past March, which prohibits him from having a firearm. A warrant was requested, and Polk was booked at the Johnson County Jail Sunday night. He’s been charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
