An Iowa City man on probation for theft and weapons charges was taken into custody after allegedly shooting himself accidentally.

The Department of Correctional Services report that officers responded to a report of a shooting on Tuesday. 34-year-old Alandro Gordon was on scene and allegedly admitted to accidentally shooting himself. He reportedly refused to cooperate with police as to where he got the firearms and where they were currently located. A search warrant was granted and officers located two firearms.

A warrant was requested for Gordon’s arrest, and he was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.

Gordon’s weapons charge dates back to 2020. Police say that they were called to the 2700 block of Wayne Avenue on reports of a 911 hang-up just before 2am on July 23rd.  While en route, they were informed that dispatch received several calls about a fight in the area and a man with a gun.

Arriving officers were able to get a full description of the suspect and caught up with the man, identified as Gordon. While he was walking, Gordon was allegedly gripping the front of his waist area with one hand and holding his back left pocket with the other. He was also reportedly walking with a limp, which police learned he normally does not do. While talking with Gordon, officers allegedly observed him with an odor of ingested alcohol.

A search of Gordon allegedly turned up a magazine with 12 rounds in his pocket, and a Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm in his waistband. He had no permit to carry.

Gordon reached a plea deal with prosecutors on August 13, 2021 where he pleaded guilty and was given two years probation. Because of the violation this week, a revocation hearing has been set for June 27th in Johnson County District Court.
