A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after police say he was involved in the overnight beating of another man behind an Iowa City pizzeria.
Iowa City Police were called to the parking lot behind’s Sam’s Pizza on South Gilbert Street just after 2am Sunday for what a 9-1-1 caller described as a man being jumped by five other subjects.
Arriving officers stopped a vehicle that was reportedly fleeing the scene. The alleged victim was taken to the site of the traffic stop and identified at least one of the suspects as a man who attacked him.
20-year-old Armon Pledge of 16th Avenue SW is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Police say Pledge struck the other man several times in the face, causing a bloody nose. The alleged victim then fell to the ground, where Pledge reportedly kicked him several times.
If convicted, Pledge faces a maximum of one year in jail.
