Allegedly firing a gun near a sleeping baby during a domestic dispute has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

Iowa City Police say they responded to a 9-1-1 hangup on H Street just after 1:30 Saturday morning. Officers say upon their arrival they heard two gunshots coming from inside the residence.

Investigators were told that 26-year-old Dakota Meyer had been arguing with his wife about his drinking when he retrieved a .45 caliber firearm and began waving it around. Meyer allegedly said he was either going to kill his wife or himself.

A shell casing was found in close proximity to a sleeping baby. A second child was inside the residence at the time the shots were fired, and police say Meyer admitted to discharging a firearm inside the house.

Meyer was arrested and charged with Intimidation With a Dangerous Weapon, Domestic Abuse Assault, and two counts of Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of over nine years in prison.
