Survey work will begin soon in Iowa City.

According to a City of Iowa City news release, Surveying And Mapping, LLC, or “SAM”, will begin mapping the city’s water and fiber assets in May. This process typically consists of inspecting utility features, using global positioning systems (GPS), and equipment. Their work will be ongoing through October.

Residents may notice SAM crews as they survey public infrastructure, including hydrants, valves, boxes, and poles. Most of the work will occur between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Some work may take place after these hours when there is less traffic. SAM crews will be wearing yellow reflective vests and driving vehicles with their company logo.

Please note crews may occasionally require access into and through private property, but never in your home. Access will be needed within city easements. Some infrastructure may be covered and will need to be uncovered to allow for survey. Crews will minimize their impact on these areas.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the city’s Water Division at 319-356-5160 or SAM at 660-562-0050.
