The Iowa City  Community School District Board of Education has voted unanimously to let students who live in the Forest View mobile home park to remain at their current school after relocating.

The Iowa City City Council has approved relocation funds for residents at the park, which has become rundown and will be closing. The relocation package would allow $15,750 per household to support moving expenses and paying increased rent for a two-year-period. The funding is available for anyone who lived at Forest View at the time a conditional zoning agreement was signed between the proposed developer and the city in June 2019, and have a household income less than $40,626.

The developer has said plans for a mixed residential and commercial project have stalled because of a lack of interest among commercial tenants. The park’s residents were to get upgraded affordable housing to rent with an option to buy.

The Daily Iowan reports that the vote Tuesday allows students who live in the Forest View area to remain at Mann Elementary, South East Junior High, and City High School for the 2022-23 school year if they wish to do so.
