An Iowa City man is accused of stealing a truck, then driving to the residence of a protected party who has a no-contact order against him.

The truck’s owner told the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office that 48-year-old James Duncan of Navajo Trail in the Regency manufactured housing community parked his van next to the man’s truck as it was parked near the corner of Elkhorn Trail and Freund Street just after 6:00 Thursday night. Duncan then allegedly got into the truck and drove off. The truck’s owner said he’d never seen Duncan before.

About an hour later a resident of the Breckenridge Estates manufactured housing community on Taft Avenue who has a no-contact order against Duncan reported that he pulled up to her trailer in the stolen truck and honked the horn. He then walked up onto the porch before driving away.

Iowa City Police pulled Duncan over near the corner of Highway 6 and Scott Boulevard.  He allegedly claimed he was told to take the truck.

Duncan was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a No-Contact Order Violation, Driving While Barred, Driving While Revoked and Driving While Suspended. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of eight years in prison.
