Five people were charged following weekend brawls outside an Iowa City nightclub.

According to the ICPD online activity log, officers were called to H Bar on South Van Buren Street for a hit-and-run accident just before 2:30 Sunday morning. A short time later a fight was reported in the nearby L&M Mighty Shop parking lot on East Burlington Street. It is unknown if the car accident was related to the fight.

Police arrived at the Mighty Shop just before 3am and reported seeing 24-year-old Danae Wauqua Diaz screaming and pushing another woman in the parking lot. Wauqua Diaz as arrested for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. She allegedly fought with the arresting officers and refused to give her name, leading to added charges of Interference With Official Acts and Harassment of a Public Official. Wauqua Diaz, who has no known address, faces a maximum of 120 days in jail.

The police activity log also shows a report of a gunshot victim at the Mighty Shop at 3am, although there is no indication if there was any merit to that report.

Just after 3:45 Sunday morning police were called back to the alley next to H Bar for another reported fight. One of the suspects, identified as 28-year-old Contrell Martin, allegedly refused officers’ command to step back from the altercation. Martin, who lists his address as CommUnity Crisis Services on Gilbert Court, allegedly fought with police after being arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He now faces an added charge of Interference With Official Acts and a maximum 90 day jail sentence.

23-year-old Lanae Wauqua-Diaz and 19-year-old Sebrena Wauqua, both of Cedar Rapids, were also allegedly involved in the fight. They each face the same charges as Martin, as they also reportedly fought with police upon their arrests.

As the fight was breaking up just after 4am, 27-year-old Raquel Lee of the Pheasant Ridge Apartments was charged with Public Intoxication, Harassment of a Public Official and Interference With Official Acts after she allegedly tried to prevent officers from arresting the others, then refused to give her name to the arresting officers. She also faces a maximum of 90 days in jail, if convicted on all charges.
