Cedar Rapids police have taken a man into custody in connection with a weekend nightclub shooting that left two dead and ten injured.

In a release from the department, 32-year-old Timothy Ladell Rush was charged with  2nd Degree Murder, Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Use of a Firearm Causing Serious Injury, and Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.

Sunday at approximately 1:30 am, investigators believe two men fired more than a dozen shots inside the Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. Officers were just outside the club because of an earlier incident where they arrested a man on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. While they were finishing the arrest, they saw a rush of people leaving the club and went inside. There, they found the victims, identified as 25-year-old Michael Valentine and 35-year-old Nicole Owens, both of Cedar Rapids.

It’s believed Rush and another unidentified shooter ran out among the 100-150 who streamed out of the nightclub after the shooting.

Officers helped treat the people who were wounded and rushed several of the victims to hospitals in their squad cars.

The Gazette reports the victims were at the club celebrating the birthday of a mutual friend.

Police announced the arrest at around 6:30pm Monday. Rush was transported to the Linn County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
