Cedar Rapids Police say off duty officer targeted in overnight shooting

Cedar Rapids police are investigating a targeted shooting towards an off-duty officer.

A release from the Police Department indicates that the Joint Communications Agency received multiple calls for shots-fired in the Cherry Hill neighborhood just before 11:30 pm Friday.  Investigating officers found evidence of a targeted shooting toward an off-duty Cedar Rapids Police Officer.  Multiple shots were fired and bullets struck the officer’s home, garage and authorized take-home squad car.  No injuries were reported.

Chief of Police Wayne Jerman views this intentional violent act as an extremely serious incident. In the release, the Chief is quoted as saying, “It was an act of intimidation and we will not tolerate it.”

The Department is actively working to find those responsible for this violent behavior and hold them accountable. Jerman added that anyone with knowledge of the incident needs to come forward and ensure this violence stops now.
