A former teacher at Highland High School in Washington County now faces charges in Linn County for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

41-year-old Justin Rapier of Cedar Rapids was previously employed as a teacher at the school. The Washington County Sheriff’s office received a report of possible sexual abuse involving a child in December and their investigation determined it was a female student.

Court complaints indicate that Rapier engaged in a sexual relationship with the student while she was attending school there. He was charged on January 20th.

KCRG TV reports new charges allege that the student went to Rapier’s home in Cedar Rapids on two occasions, once in August of 2019 and again before she graduated on or about May 2021.

Rapier faces charges of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee in Washington County and faces up to five years in prison if convicted. The Linn County charges could add another four years to his sentence.
