A local transient was arrested after a violent outburst at Shelter House.
Iowa City Police were called to the Southgate Avenue facility at 7:30 Tuesday night for a subject who would not leave when asked. Arriving officers learned that 42-year-old Chiquita Lolita Dameron had allegedly threatened and attempted to assault several people. Security video shows Dameron swinging a full garbage bag at a Shelter House staffer’s head and follow her around in an aggressive manner. The victim can be seen trying to shoo Dameron away.
Police say they tried to tell Dameron to leave the premises, but she refused. She was arrested and charged with Assault and Trespassing. If convicted, Dameron faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.
Trial is set for May 3rd.
