An Iowa City man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after causing a disturbance at a downtown convenience store.

Police were called to the L&M Mighty Shop on East Burlington Street after 45-year-old Ramon Duron of South Dodge Street was reportedly inside the business after being given a trespass warning. According to the arrest report, Duron left the building and picked up a large pole. He allegedly began hitting the windows of the business with such loud force that uninvolved persons called 911 reporting that they heard gunfire.

The clerk at the station said Duron’s conduct placed them in fear of bodily harm.

Duron was charged with 2nd degree Harassment and Disorderly Conduct. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.

Duron was arrested last week after allegedly demanding a woman’s phone number multiple times, following her into a friend’s apartment complex, joining her on an elevator and preventing her from leaving. He reportedly told the woman that she was going to stay with him forever and followed her into her friend’s apartment. Duron complained of chest pains while being taken to the Johnson County Jail and after refusing treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, he allegedly scuffled with officers as they attempted to handcuff him. Charges from last week’s incidents could lead to Duron being sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
