US Army Corps of Engineers updates Water Control Plan for Coralville Lake

Edited release

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have implemented the new Water Control Plan for Coralville Lake.

In a release from the City of Iowa City, the plan includes a schedule of releases, conservation pool levels to be maintained during non-flood or drought conditions, and downstream water level constraints.

The plan, approved last month, was updated because the Iowa River has experienced a significant increase in the magnitude and frequency of flooding; sediment build-up has negatively impacted storage capacity;  and due to changes in land use and flood risk management infrastructure like levees built in the City of Coralville, and the Dubuque Street flood mitigation project in Iowa City that affect the nature and onset of flood impacts.
