A Davenport woman who allegedly wrote bad checks to fraudulently obtain a vehicle and merchandise last fall has been arrested.

Police say 40-year-old Trisha Hengl of West 64th Street wrote a check to Deery Brothers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on September 29th for nearly $3400 to purchase a vehicle. On October 13th the dealership was informed that the account the check had been written on had been closed. They attempted to make contact with Hengl to rectify the situation, but she reportedly did not respond back.

A month later, on October 29th, security footage reportedly shows that Hengl went to the Menards store on Naples Avenue and allegedly purchased merchandise totaling $370 by check. The check was later dishonored by the issuing bank. Menards officials sent a demand for payment to Hengl by certified mail that was delivered on November 2nd. As of December 9th, she had not paid the debt, and her phone had been allegedly disconnected.

Warrants for Hengl’s arrest were issued, and she was booked at the Johnson County Jail just before 3 am Saturday. She faces a 2nd degree theft charge for the Deery incident and a 4th degree theft charge for the Menards incident. If convicted on both counts, Hengl could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
