Coralville Police have arrested a woman they say crashed a stolen car into a police cruiser.

According to arrest records, officers found the stolen 2022 Honda Accord parked at 209 2nd Street just after 7:30 Friday night. The car was still ruining with 18-year-old Fanta Fomba of Mount Pleasant in the driver’s seat. Police say Fomba tried to flee the scene, backing into a squad car in the process.

Fomba allegedly admitted that she and a friend had stolen the car, which had an estimated value of $27,000. As she was being processed at the Coralville Police station, Fomba reportedly claimed she was pregnant, and her handcuffs were moved to her front. She then allegedly tried to run away on foot. One officer reportedly injured her right knee while chasing Fomba, requiring treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Fomba is charged with 1st Degree Theft and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
