A Coralville woman has been arrested after police say she attacked her girlfriend with a stick at an Iowa City Kum & Go.

Online records show Iowa City Police were called to the Riverside Drive Kum & Go just after 4:15 Monday afternoon for a woman saying she was going to “kill everyone”. Arriving officers learned that 19-year-old Kayla Gravitt Ross of Holiday Road had been in a fight with her girlfriend. Gravitt Ross was a passenger in her girlfriend’s vehicle when she allegedly grabbed and jerked the steering wheel and told her she hoped she would die. The girlfriend then pulled into Kum & Go and parked, and Gravitt Ross walked away from the car.

Police say the girlfriend tried to stop Gravitt Ross, who turned around and began hitting the woman. At one point Gravitt Ross allegedly grabbed a stick and started using it to strike the woman. The girlfriend was able to break away and began calling 9-1-1, but police say Gravitt Ross tackled her to prevent her from dialing. The woman was eventually able to escape and call for help.

Gravitt Ross is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Obstruction of Emergency Communication. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
