A Coralville woman faces charges after reportedly leaving the scene of an automobile accident Tuesday night.

Just before 8:50 pm, a collision occurred at Highway 6 East and Keokuk Street. An Iowa City police officer arrived on scene and radioed that a black female wearing a white sweatshirt, grey or pink sweatpants and slippers had just fled northbound from a Volkswagen Van. The officer was informed that 31-year-old Mary Davis of 20th Avenue Place had been arrested out of the same vehicle on March 16th.

Davis was located a few blocks away from the collision. She allegedly stated that the van was hers, and had a strong odor of ingested alcohol. Police say Davis was belligerent and refused field testing. She was arrested for OWI and refused PBT, breath and urine tests.

A check of the woman’s driving record showed two previous OWIs; from 2015 in Cook County Illinois and 2018 in Johnson County. She was also barred from driving until August of 2023 for being an habitual offender.

Davis was charged with OWI third offense, driving while barred, and public intoxication. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
