An Iowa City man arrested on warrants for meth and marijuana possession faces additional charges after allegedly bringing controlled substances into the Johnson County Jail.

Police say a search warrant was executed on the Dewey Street residence of 26-year-old Marvin Wright on January 3rd. During the search, a bag of unknown pills was discovered. Drug chemistry reports indicated the pills, weighing about 12 and a half grams, were methamphetamine. An 18-gram bag of marijuana was also discovered, with a scale and tray containing marijuana residue.

Two juveniles were in the residence, and investigators determined that at least one of them had access to or was engaged in the usage of the substances at the residence.

A warrant was requested for Wright’s arrest on February 25th, and he was taken into custody Saturday. While being patted down, he allegedly told Iowa City police officers he had nothing illegal on his person. However, while being searched at the Johnson County jail, deputies found a green leafy substance, two pills, and two chewable tablets. Wright reportedly admitted the substance was marijuana, and the tablets were ecstasy. He allegedly had no knowledge of what the pills were.

Wright faces several charges. From January’s search warrant, he was charged with keeping a residence for controlled substances, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. For the jail offense, Wright was charged with Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted on all counts, Wright faces a prison sentence of up to over ten years.
