A Muscatine man was taken into custody early Saturday after allegedly causing a scene in an Iowa City neighborhood.
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Dover Street around 4 am on reports of a man unknown to the residents banging on their front door and yelling. When the residents didn’t answer the door, the man, identified as 27-year-old Tyron Williams of Boston Park in Muscatine, went to the back yard and banged on the back door aggressively.
Officers contacted Williams in the back yard, where he allegedly argued with officers. He reportedly stated that he was at his friend’s house, though the residents didn’t know him. Police say Williams had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, impaired balance, struggled to follow simple commands, had bar bands on his wrist, and had the odor of ingested alcohol.
As the interaction continued, Williams reportedly became belligerent and verbally abusive towards officers. He refused a post-arrest PBT.
A check of Williams’ record showed he was wanted for failure to appear for his probation revocation hearing back on September 8th, 2020. He pleaded guilty to OWI in April 2019 and agreed to a court ordered payment plan that he reportedly failed to complete, which caused the court to ask for his probation to be revoked.
Williams was charged with Public Intoxication and released. He faces 30 days in jail if convicted on that charge; the OWI in question was his first and punishable by up to a year in jail due to the probation violation.
