An Iowa City woman arrested on domestic assault charges allegedly attacked her husband with a knife and asked police to murder him for her.
Officers responded to a domestic report at the Calvin Avenue home of 65-year-old Barbara Rivadeneira late Saturday night involving her threatening her husband. The reported victim stated that Rivadeneira hit him five or six times but was uninjured. However, she was holding three kitchen knives and came at him saying she was going to kill him.
The husband also alleged that Rivadeneira took the only working phone at the residence to prevent him from calling 911.
Police talked to the woman, who reportedly had gone to bed after the incident. She allegedly said that she wanted officers to murder her husband for her, saying that she hates him and wants him to die.
A dog was lying on the bed, and Rivadeneira’s husband attempted to take the pet off the bed to allow officers to speak with the woman. A struggle for the dog reportedly ensued, with officers attempting to break it up. That allegedly resulted in Rivadeneira striking an officer in the left forearm.
The woman was taken into custody, and reportedly kept making statements that she hated her husband, wanted him dead, and hoped that he would commit suicide.
Rivadeneira was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with the use of a weapon, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to three years in jail.
A no-contact order was requested between the two.
