Shots fired incident Sunday in Cedar Rapids leads to arrest of teenager

A shots-fired incident Sunday afternoon in Cedar Rapids led to the arrest of an underage boy.

According to a release from the city’s Police Department, the Joint Communications Center received a call reporting shots fired near 196 15th Ave. SW at 5 pm.  Dispatch advised officers that the suspect vehicle was a blue Ford SUV.  Officers responding to the scene located the suspect vehicle in the 2100 block of 16th Ave. SW, conducted a traffic stop and detained 3 subjects.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 33-year old victim intervened in a neighbor dispute when the defendant, identified as a 17-year old male, produced a handgun and discharged it.  The suspect fled in the above vehicle.  The victim was not struck by any rounds.

The 17-year old male was arrested and charged of Intimidation With a Weapon and Interference with Official Acts.  The firearm used was recovered in the vehicle.
