A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested after fleeing officers who stopped him for lane violations late Sunday.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped 26-year-old Jeffrey Chambers of Midland Court Northeast at approximately 11:45pm. Upon contact, the vehicle reportedly smelled strongly of raw marijuana. When Chambers was asked to step out of the vehicle, he allegedly rolled up the windows. Deputies had to break out the passenger side window, and one received cuts to his arm in the process.
Chambers then reportedly sped off at speeds of over 95 miles an hour. He fled for approximately four miles before he came to a stop.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a vape pen believed to contain THC, and a metal container containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana.
Chambers was taken to the Johnson County Jail and charged with Eluding, Marijuana possession, and Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.
