A police chase through West Branch was caught on what has become a viral video.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says just before 11am Wednesday 65-year-old David Albaugh was clocked going 91 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone on Herbert Hoover Highway at its intersection with Interstate 80.

While the officer was issuing the citation, Albaugh allegedly drove away and headed eastbound on Herbert Hoover Highway. Although the officer activated his lights and siren, Albaugh refused to stop and continued at speeds of 47 to 56 miles an hour.

Albaugh ended up driving to his residence on 300th Street in West Branch, where he was taken into custody. He was charged with Eluding, second or subsequent offense, and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.

Part of the chase was caught on video by students at West Branch High School. The video shows Albaugh leading deputies past the school as students cheer on the officer. The video was uploaded to the Iowa Chill Instagram and Snapchat stories.
