Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office issues warning about jury duty scam

The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a jury duty scam being reported by local residents.

According to a news release, a subject identifying himself as “Officer McCleary” states the targeted person missed federal jury duty, and that they should call a “Jeff Mullen” if there is a problem. A phone number is then provided, as well as a link to remedy the missed jury duty.

The sheriff’s office says that while the names provided do belong to employees of the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, the phone calls are not originating from the employees or the agency.
