The Iowa City City Council is poised to earmark about a million dollars from their American Rescue Plan Act fund to CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank.

The council’s expected to vote on the allocation at their meeting tonight.

The majority of the funds will be used to improve an already-proven successful mobile outreach program CommUnity has implemented.

The Daily Iowan reports that the money will go towards three Mobile Crisis Outreach counselors, eight vehicles, and a remodel of the food bank.

A report included in the agenda packet for tonight’s meeting was written by Assistant City Manager Rachel Kilburg. She acknowledged the Council’s support for several initiatives, including the expansion of the mobile outreach program “to improve response time and consistency in service.”

The City was awarded a total of $18 million from the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund.
