A North Liberty man faces charges that he crashed his car while intoxicated.

North Liberty Police were called to an address on Otter Lane at 10:30 Saturday night after a resident reported a car in the ditch behind their home. Responding officers found a 2013 Chevy Impala in a ditch along Scales Bend Road. The vehicle was still running, but had its lights off.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Matthew Pierson of Twin Lake View Drive, was still in the driver’s seat when officers arrived. Police say he admitted to drinking five or six alcoholic beverages at a local bar before attempting to drive home.

Pierson allegedly admitted to being too intoxicated to drive, showed signs of impairment, and declined field sobriety testing.  His breath alcohol level was measured at .150% and .185%.

Pierson was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated. There were no reported injuries.
