A Cedar Rapids man charged in connection with what police called a “very violent fight” in downtown Iowa City is back behind bars after he allegedly skipped a court date.

23-year-old Paris Hollsingshed of 8th Avenue SE was booked in to the Johnson County Jail just after 10am Saturday. According to court records, a warrant was issued for Hollingshed’s arrest after he failed to appear at his arraignment last December.

Hollingshed is accused of fighting another man in front of Gabe’s on East Washington Street just after 1:30pm on October 23rd. The two were allegedly threatening to kill each other.

Witnesses said Hollingshed initiated the fight and struck the other man in the face, causing scratches around his nose and eyes. The man was later transported to a hospital for his injuries.

Police say Hollingshed was non-compliant with their commands during handcuffing and had to be pepper-sprayed into compliance.

Hollingshed is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail. A new arraignment date has not yet been set.
