A rural West Liberty woman faces charges that she illegally purchased three firearms for a North Liberty felon.
34-year-old Natalie Denlinger was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:30 Saturday morning. North Liberty Police say on September 25th of last year Denlinger purchased a firearm at Scheel’s in Coralville with the intent of giving it to 37-year-old Randall Grandstaff. Grandstaff is a convicted felon, and as such, is not allowed to own a firearm.
Investigators say Denlinger confessed to purchasing three different guns for Grandstaff with money he provided.
A search of Denlinger’s residence on Johnson-Muscatine Road allegedly turned up glass pipes used to smoke marijuana, and she allegedly admitted to smoking the drug. Investigators say they also located ATF paperwork signed by Denlinger in which she reportedly marked boxes indicating she was not a user of illegal drugs.
Denlinger is charged with Giving False Information for the Purchase of a Firearm. If convicted, she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
Investigators say Grandsataff was found hiding in a trailer in the Regency manufactured housing community on January 19th. A search of the bedroom in which Grandstaff was hiding reportedly found commercial grade fireworks, and before being apprehended Grandstaff allegedly threatened to blow officer’s heads off. He’s charged with Possession of Explosives, 1st Degree Harassment, Interference with a DCS Officer and Giving False Information for the Purchase of a Firearm. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 18 years in prison.
