A late-night stop at a convenience store led to the arrest of an Iowa City woman after she became confrontational with staff and responding police.

Officers were called to the Kum & Go on South Gilbert a little after 9:30pm Sunday. 23-year-old Shyawna Collins of South Dubuque Street reportedly became confrontational with the staff. When she was asked to leave, she allegedly ripped the name tag off a member.

Officers arrived on scene and Collins reportedly refused to provide her name. She eventually provided a name, but it was a false one. Collins was placed under arrest when she physically resisted. During the altercation, police say Collins grabbed an officer around the neck of his external vest carrier and would not let go.

During a search post-arrest, Collins allegedly had a marijuana grinder on her person.

She faces a list of charges. They include Assault, Assault on persons in Certain Occupations, Interference with Official Acts, Providing False ID information, Trespass, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Collins faces a jail sentence of up to sixteen months.
