A Davenport man is facing several charges after an incident at a Coralville restaurant and bar early Sunday.

Police were called to Quinton’s on Corridor Way at approximately 1:20 am on reports of a man causing issues there. Staff reported a man who refused to leave, and that the situation had turned physical, with the man pinning another customer against a wall. Officers were given a description of the man’s vehicle, and upon arrival observed 41-year-old David Serrano pulling out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed. He was followed to the nearby MainStay Suites parking lot, where Serrano exited his Acura.

Upon contact, Serrano reportedly had the strong odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance. He allegedly admitted to drinking a few beers. Serrano was uncooperative during the execution of field sobriety testing, failing to finish any of them. Serrano also refused a preliminary breath test and Datamaster testing.

When the officers on scene attempted to take Serrano into custody, he reportedly began yelling homophobic epithets and failed to obey commands. He allegedly assaulted all three officers in the process of arrest. He stepped on one officer’s foot and injured his wrist as he was being taken to the ground, kicked a second officer in the groin, and kicked and kneed the third officer as he was being placed into the back of a squad car.

Serrano was taken into custody and faces two aggravated misdemeanor counts of Assault on Peace Officers causing Injury; one count of Assault on a Peace Officer; 2nd offense OWI; and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces over seven years in prison.
