An Iowa City man was arrested Friday after allegedly trying to run down another person in the Walmart parking lot.

Officers were called to the Coralville store on Commerce Drive at noon on reports of a large fight. There, they were able to locate one of the vehicles involved and made a traffic stop. A few minutes later, the victim from Wendy’s called and claimed that the suspect, 23-year-old Russell Miller of Governor Street, had assaulted him.

The man told authorities that he was walking back from Walmart and saw a car coming at him. He jumped on another car to get out of the way, but Miller reportedly got out of his car and struck the man several times with a closed fist.

The victim received a cut to the head and planned on seeking medical attention. When questioned about the incident, Miller allegedly admitted to the acts.

Miller was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted. A no-contact order was requested between the parties involved.
