Mail service in Coralville and the towns it sorts mail for has been delayed, with a Tiffin resident reporting not getting mail for seven days.

The Daily Iowan reports that Sherri Smith and her husband found out that with illness and turnover, the post office was 50 carriers short. She told the paper that the USPS needs to communicate their issues to residents so they can make contingency plans.

The delays are causing some residents to not get essential medications and utility bills. The city of Tiffin has alerted customers on a Facebook page about the mail delays, listing several options to pay their bills.

Mark Inglett, USPS strategic communications representative, wrote in an email to The Daily Iowan that Postal Service local management is aware of delivery issues in Coralville. He wrote that the USPS workforce isn’t immune to the staffing impacts from COVID-19.
