An Iowa City man faces charges after allegedly breaking into a University of Iowa building and taking thousands of dollars in equipment.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on November 30th sometime between 4:45 and approximately 8:30 pm. 46-year-old Ronald Vallancourt entered room 107 in the UI Biology building and stole approximately $4000 in university property. The criminal complaint says that Vallancourt had no current affiliation with the University of Iowa when the alleged incident occurred.
Vallencourt is also accused of causing about $1200 in damage when taking the property.
He’s been charged with 3rd degree Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree Burglary, and 2nd degree Theft. If convicted on all counts, Vallancourt faces a prison term of up to twelve years.
