Swisher firefighters used a drone to help with their ice rescue training Saturday at the Coralville Reservoir.

According to the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department Facebook page, North Liberty Police provided the drone, which can drop a flotation device to a subject who has fallen through the ice from as far away as 200 yards.

Rescuers also practiced with a specialty sled that allows them to float on open water as well as traverse ice, rocks or snow to pull a victim to safety.

Saturday’s training took place at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca on Sandy Beach Road. Photos and video can be found on the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department Facebook page.
