Allegedly threatening police officers after his arrest for a fight at a downtown bar has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.
Iowa City Police were called for an unruly subject at Gabe’s on East Washington Street just before 10:45 Friday night. Witnesses reported 21-year-old Riley Reynolds of the Modern Manor manufactured housing community was physically fighting with Gabe’s staff and refusing to leave. Police say before they could arrive Reynolds ripped a railing off a wall before heading out to the corner of Gilbert and Washington Streets, where he continued yelling at bar staff.
Arriving officers say Reynolds showed signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, and provided a breath alcohol level of .231%. Reynolds was arrested and placed into the back of a squad car, where he reportedly threatened the lives of the arresting officers. Police say threats included stabbing an officer in the throat and killing one while he was asleep.
Reynolds is charged with two counts of 1st Degree Harassment and one count each of Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct and 5th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, Reynolds faces a maximum of 27 months in jail.
