Patrons leaving downtown Iowa City bars early Sunday morning saw quite the sight if they were walking past the corner of Clinton and Burlington Streets. That’s where Iowa City Police say just before 2am 21-year-old Mara Loyola of the Latitude apartments on East 7th Street in Coralville allegedly struck a fire hydrant with her 2004 Toyota Highlander. Police say Loyola admitted to sliding into the hydrant, showed signs of intoxication, had an open container of alcohol inside her vehicle, and registered breath alcohol levels of .111% and .099%.
Loyola is charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
