An event originally scheduled for August 2020 and postponed to this year has now been canceled completely.

The Daily Iowan reports that “The Big Splash!” was to coincide with Hancher Auditorium’s 50th anniversary season and was originally intended as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the University of Iowa’s hydraulic laboratory. The lab is located at the corner of Burlington Street and Riverside Drive.

A news release says the decision to cancel the event was based on what Hancher officials called “uncertainty and repercussions” caused by the pandemic. The festival was also intended to celebrate the Iowa River itself.

The DI adds that some aspects of the Big Splash will now be incorporated into Hancher Auditorium’s 2022-23 season. Further details are expected to be announced this summer.
